Have you ever watched the movie “Groundhogs Day”, where Bill Murray relives the same day over and over? Well, you might have déjà vu yourself when you run a 1 mile route multiple times to get in a 5K. But if you bring somebody along that only wants to run the first mile with you that’s ok…they can stop while you finish your 5K.
Bikers….after the runners have beaten down the trail a bit and gone home you can start your ride. Yes we understand you are going a bit further, but you will still feel déjà vu as you take multiple laps to accomplish a 15K route.
Our plan is to have this be a festive environment and hope that many of you will dress up as your favorite character from the movie. In fact the biggest competition that day will be a costume judging contest.
The Course: The course is paved and somewhat plowed, which means no underlying rocks, roots, or holes. HOWEVER, it is winter in Michigan, so plan on cold and snow.
RACE DAY: There is plenty of parking close to the starting line. Also, we all know runners like to dress light, so we have a heated building (South Dining Hall) to hang out in and stretch out before the start. This will be the same building your non-running fans can stay in during the run, if it is too cold for them to come out and watch.
Aid Stations: It is a short enough run we will not have water stations, however, a nurse will be at the event should someone have a medical emergency.
Packet Pickup: Your packet will consist of your bib number, a Hoodie (Sweatshirt), raffle tickets (2 per entry), and your ticket for post-race chili and water (additional chili tickets can be purchased the day of the race). “Packet pickup” will at Bible Baptist Church (1915 Cass Rd Traverse City) on Friday night (5-7pm) or at 7am the morning of the event at the South Dining Hall (Lake Ann Camp).
Wave Start: We will officially start the running event at 9am and biking event at 12 (noon), however, because I know most runners & bikers like to get an extra minute or two of sleep, to help their time, the start time of each race will be open roughly 15 minutes past the official start time.
Location: This event will be held at “Lake Ann Camp”. HOWEVER, if you type that into your GPS or IPhone there is a good chance it will take you to either a wrong or a closed entrance. So the address where you want to go to is: 18400 Maple St., Lake Ann, Michigan 49650
Post-Race: After the race plan to hang out in the South Dining Hall where the runners/bikers will be able to have post-race chili and water. This is where we will also raffle off several prizes and hand out the awards to the costume winners. (Estimated time 10am for runners & 2pm for bikers)
Hooded Sweatshirts: Guaranteed to all pre-registered participants, that have their form and entry fee in by January 20. Sweatshirts available for late registers and day of event registration will be based on “first come, first served.” Size and quantity guaranteed ONLY to pre-registered participants.
Donations: All funds from this event, minus expenses, will go to support orphanage work in South Africa & Mozambique. If you are interested in making an additional donation you can find a spot for this on your registration form. Also, the day of the race there will be a “donation jar”, and an opportunity to purchase additional raffle tickets.
