LEADING WITH LOVE | Bible Verse Daily

John 13:34-35 (NASB) – A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”

Before Jesus returns to His Father He gave His disciples a few lessons on leadership.  One is found here in our Daily Bible Verse of John 13:34-35.  We will be known as Jesus Disciples by how we lead and how we love.  And true, effective leadership will require us to love sacrificially.

Over the past several weeks my wife and I noticed a trend in one of our children’s character; selfishness.  Jen and I decided that this could not go on any longer and we needed to address it.  We put together a plan and we lovingly talked with her about what we were seeing in her life.  We brought up several points of emphasis:

  • She has had a season of life where she has experienced great friendships
  • Her friendships are grounded in the fact that she and her friends have good character
  • Her friends are not selfish – yet (there have been times) when they too have had selfish tendencies
  • She admitted that she doesn’t like being around selfish people
  • If she chooses selfishness she will lose her friends and and become lonely
  • She has the choice of choosing selfishness or friendships…
  • What is more valuable in the long-haul?

Over the next few weeks we will implement a few “exercises” for her to help reinforce a selfless character.

Why do we do this?  Because we love her and we want to lead with love.

Love requires us to do tough things.  Love requires us to have tough conversations.  And in this situation love requires my daughter to give up certain things so she can be giving and gracious to her friends; thus becoming more of a friend.

How have you seen this “Lead with Love” principle played out in your life?  Please reply below, I’d love to hear about it.
